Kate Pictures at 6 Weeks

Today Kate Elizabeth is 6 weeks old. She is becoming quite the active little one. She loves to play on both her back and stomach. She is kicking like crazy and very alert. She is both a smiley and serious little girl. She is especially serious while eating and especially smiley after eating. Her fussiest period is now from 8pm to 12am, which is better than the 10-2am fussiness before, and much better than the 12-4am fussiness right after birth. We are making progress. I have been trying to read up in my "spare" time on child development and structure to overcome this small period of fussiness. She is really doing well and is such a joy for most of the day. She is now 10.5 lbs, and some nights she is sleeping for longer stretches like 11- 4am or 5am, which is heavenly. Kate has had many trips as of late including the gym, shopping, and lunch. Brian and I were able to have my Mom come to babysit, and we went to a silent auction for the youth at church Friday. It was nice to get dressed up for the event and be able to socialize with everyone. Thanks for coming Mom! Enjoy our latest pictures.

Kate's First Day at Church

We brought Kate to Church for the first time this morning. She was quite the celebrity! We were causing traffic jams in the hallways as people tried to meet our little girl. The kids were especially excited to see her and would ask, "Is this Pastor Davies' baby?" Kate was very good for her first church outing. She was up for a good while taking it all in and was not fussy for the service. When we went up to communion, I could visibly feel the hundreds of eyes on Kate. The most special part of the day was when Kate received a blessing from her Daddy as we went up to communion. We have some video of Kate getting ready for her outing.

Kate Elizabeth Pictures at 5 Weeks

Yesterday was our five week mark and Kate is hitting all the developmentally appropriate marks. She is smiling often with her eyes open and staying awake for much longer intervals in the day. We are now enjoying many outings together including lunch and shopping (what Bundalo girls do best.) So far she has been very good on our outings. The car movement seems to put her to sleep so we are going with that, and the travel system that prevents us from waking Kate from the car to the stroller is a huge help. How nice to be out in the world and what fun our little girl is becoming. Below are her pictures from the week.

Kate Out and About Video

Kate is now getting a taste of the outside world. Brian's parents who have been named by Cheryl's kids Gammy and Pop Pop came for a visit. It was the first time Kate got to meet her Pop Pop. She loved him and even christened him with a "little" spit up. We had a great time together, ordered in on Saturday when they arrived, and all five went to lunch together on Sunday after church. They yesterday after an excellent night sleep by all in the Davies household. We can't wait for them to return. Yesterday was also Brian's day off and the three of us went to the gym for the first time as a family. It felt so good to be out and moving. We put Kate in her snuggly carrier, and I walked around the track with her while Brian did his workout. When he finished he walked with Kate in the snugli, and I did some light arm weights. I'm trying to ease back into things as I tire pretty quickly in these weeks after delivery. It was fun to take our little angel and show her off. People commented as to how beautiful she was and how little. She doesn't seem that little to us because we've seen how much she has grown already! She is out of her newborn clothes and is over the ten pound mark. Kate and especially Mommy are looking forward to our future outings. The video link below is of Kate before our Sunday outing. The pictures above are from the weekend. If you look close at the picture of all three of us, you can see the new garnet earrings my wonderful husband gave to me. Hope you enjoy!

Daddy's Girl Video

Our little Kate has certainly enjoyed her Daddy time. Brian has been very busy with church stuff, but he has managed to make it home at lunch to give me a reprieve. She always seems to be the most smiley around him, and he can always get a burp out of her. Brian has taken to calling Kate D.G. for Daddy's Girl, and there are times when they are the spitting image of each other. They are so cute together! Kate has been really holding her head up, and has been even more alert. She has now realized there is a world around her, and for a few days decided sleeping was for the birds. She has settled back down and is really gaining control of her neck and head. In fact, when she is laying on her stomach she can pick her head up, turn, and switch to laying down on her other cheek. Our Valentine's Day excursion was quite the success. She slept through the entire thing! Brian suprised me with a beautiful pair of garnet earrings, Kate's birthstone. Future Dads take note of this thoughtful gift.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Today is a big day for Kate. It is her first outing (other than the doctor's office). Kate, her Daddy, and I are going out for dessert later tonight. Brian and I started this Valentine's Day tradition years ago, and this year it coincides with Kate being four weeks old and we can all go together. Kate, Brian, and I send Valentine's wishes to everyone! We hope you enjoy her Week 4 pictures below.

Weekend Visitors

Brian, Kate, and I had some visitors the weekend! My Mom arrived Wednesday during a huge snow storm. She babysat for us Friday night so Brian and I could go out on our first date night since Kate was born. She slept most of the time we were gone and successfully took a bottle of expressed breast milk. It was very nice to get out. My husband, the friend of all man kind, has made great friends with the manager at Longhorn. The manager thus made our first night out very special with a card, rose for me, and a complimentary dessert. Saturday my Dad arrived to see his little granddaughter, and we had a great time together. My parents left this morning, but not before My Mom and I got to dress Kate in some of her cutest outfits. There was a little objection from her Dad and Grandpa and some mention of don't torture the kid and her looking like an amish child. However, every girl waits for the day to play dress up with her very own baby girl. Besides, I carried her for 9 months and went through 20 hours of labor, so I think I have some say in the matter.

Snow Days :(

Snow days have taken on new meaning for me now that I'm home with Kate. As a teacher an early morning snow day call brings feelings of euphoria, as you congratulate yourself for choosing the right profession and enjoy your day that is now completely unscheduled. When you find yourself at home with an infant and still on the automated phone tree for your district, that 5:30am call is not so nice. Especially, when you have just finally got your little girl down at 4:00am after much angst, have a lack-of-sleep headache, and are in the midst of the deepest sleep you can remember since she was born. That was me Monday morning, the third such call I have received since Kate was born. A sound that was once so sweet, has become quite tough to stomach. I really have to see about getting myself off that list...

New Kate Video

Brian and I have been having a great time with our little girl. She is such a sweetheart. She has been a bit fussy during the hours of 10pm -2am, but we are working on it. Last night I was trying to "reason" with my 3 week old about how it was bed time and we all needed to be sleeping when she smiled at me with this mischevious grin. It melted my heart, and all I could do was laugh. She is smiling a lot now and recognizes both her Daddy and Mommy's voices. She sometimes confuses us though as you'll see from the video below.

Kate Pictures at 3 Weeks

Yesterday Kate was three weeks old. She is starting to play more during the day with her toys and has gotten into a good routine. She is such a good baby and becoming very smiley. She is getting very long in her legs so her newborn sleepers will not last much longer. We've gotten quite a bit of snow during Kate's first three weeks of life, and it has been kind of nice to watch the snow fall and cuddle with her inside our toasty house. The highlights of our days have been Daddy's visits during lunch! Kate loves her Dad and if he picks her up and talks to her, she stops fussing right away. She is such a joy.

A Day in the Life of Kate Video

Kate is certainly settling into a routine and becoming much more alert during the day. She is very fun to play with and very much likes all of her toys. It is amazing how much equipment this little girl has, but her Mommy and Daddy are happy for every second she is occupied by all her "stuff". The video below is snipets of a day in the life of Kate.

Dad Hijacks the Blog

Happy Super Bowl Sunday all. I think it's time for Daddy to hijack the blog. I thought I'd post this picture of my little girl giving some love to the G-Men in honor of her Pop Pop. We're minutes from kick-off, and we're all hoping the Giants represent well.
Look real close, and you'll see that Kate is as confused as her chameleon Father. She's pulling for the G-men, yet wearing a Bears shirt. Too bad, as her other Grandpa puts it, "The Bears stink."

Visit From Gammy

Gammy arrived to see Kate on Thursday and it has been so nice to have her with us. The pediatrician said we are not suppossed to take Kate out into public places because of flu season for 4 weeks until her immune system builds a little. I have been especially appreciative of the company during the day and the help watching her so I can get out of the house. I have been to the grocery store, the mall, and the gym to walk on a treadmill, and it has been wonderful to get out. Gammy describes Kate as a peaceful baby which she certainly is. Kate is especially so just after she is fed and gives us her really big smiles. She doesn't really cry as much as squeaks and fidgets. We had two rougher nights of sleep after the last post as Kate wanted to party all night, but yesterday Kate was awesome sleeping from 11-9 waking up twice to be fed and changed. It is amazing how just a few hours of uninterrupted sleep can make you feel so refreshed. We love our little girl so much, even the sleepless nights are fun (in retrospect)!
