Megan at 15 Months

So Megan is a little over 15 months and she is pretty much 15 months going on 3. She is a precious little girl with an endearing smile, adorable laugh, and an infectious zest for life. She can be the sweetest little girl who loves to cuddle and gives the best hugs and kisses, but she know what she wants and when she wants it. Her will is like iron and her heart is good as gold. That is why we often describe her as our spunky little Meggy.

Megan certainly know what she wants, and luckily she is really starting to be able to communicate it to us. Her vocabulary is incredible. We stopped counting at 100 words just before she turned 15 months.

Some of my favorite words are of course Tay for Kate, Ge-Kah for her cousin Jacob, an adorable Tirsty (Thirsty), Mine which is a good word for a second child to master quickly, Go-Go for Diego which has now progressed to De-Go, Doh-Da which sounds incredibly like a good rolled r, and I think she has the cutest uh-oh and hooray of any child on the planet. As an unbiased mother I also think she does the cutest woof-woof for doggies and roars for lions.

Megan in the last month has even progressed to some 2- 3 word sentence. Her first official sentence was, "Hi, Daddy." Some other good ones; Ah Tirsty, Ah Wove You, Mommy Hold (Howd) Me, Me Snack (Me Na), Change Diaper (Cha Da Poo) and My ----- (fill in the blank with whatever her sister currently has).

I think as her vocabulary progresses she'll get to be an even easier child, and we won't have to put up with the dramatic crying, while we figure out exactly she wants. Yes she cries very dramatically at times. It is as if you broke her heart just by leaving the room, or by putting the wrong pair of shoes on her. However, as soon as you give her what she wants, like the pink crocs instead of the gym shoes, or the toy just out of reach, the heartbreaking crying stops and a giggle of accomplishment replaces it. It took me awhile to figure out how badly Megan wanted to wear Kate's dress up heels, but once we figured it out one of Megan's favorite things to do became clip-cloping around in little Cinderella shoes and all we hear is that satisfied laugh.

Megan is a great eater. She is not picky at all and loves when we say prayers at dinner. She doesn't mind being messy at all. In fact, sometimes I suspect she seeks out messes.

One of the reasons I say Megan is 15 months going on 3, is that she wants to do everything her sister does. She so badly wants to be just like her sister it is overwhelmingly cute, a bit heart jerking, and a little frustrating all at the same time. If Kate has a yellow spoon at dinner, Megan wants one. If Kate is coloring with markers, Megan wants to. If Kate doesn't have to sit in a high chair, then Megan doesn't want to. As you can imagine Megan's desires not meeting with her abilities can be challenging but mostly they are adorable, like her love of teeth brushing. Megan is obsessed. All we have to do is mention teeth and Megan literally sprints, and I mean sprints to the bathroom.

I know Megan wanting to do everything that Kate does is because Megan adores her older sister. She gives great hugs and kisses to her sister, proclaiming "guh" as she gives them. Kate is fabulous to her little sister. Megan sits on Kate's lap while Kate "reads" her stories. They play hide-and-seek together and mostly get along very well. The other day they were in the family room and Kate told me, "Mommy, Meggy and I are playing together. We're friends." There is no greater joy than to see these two girls together.

As the weather is getting nicer Megan is showing she loves the outdoors. If we mention outside she runs to the door and screams until we open it for. She also seems to be super athletic. She is really fast and really strong. Seeing her muscle her way onto the chairs and climbing things is pretty impressive. Her little feet are so fast, and she can really move. As I write this I can just her her feet going pitter patter, and the image that come to mind is like an avalanche downhill. Once she starts going she really doesn't stop until she runs into things, like the wall. She is really brave. Sometimes a little too brave, and boy is she tough. Multiple times she has collided or fallen and Brian and I look at each other waiting for screaming, but she amazingly shakes it off, stands up with one of her killer smiles, and keeps going.

We cherish both our beautiful girls and are so thankful for you Meggy. You have a lot of energy, require a lot of energy, and bring us an unthinkable amount of joy and love.

Happy Mother's Day Beth!

Hi all, this is Brian. I thought I'd hijack the blog for a few moments to wish Beth a Happy Mother's Day. In her honor, three very amateur videographers and actors shot the following video...

Beth, you bring such passion, energy, patience, and love to each day as a Mom. I am so thankful that God gave you to my girls and to me! I love spending each day with you, and look forward to many, many more! Enjoy the day!
