Our Little Handful

Our sweet baby girl has decided she's too big for the baby swing and tries to climb out of it. The same with her infant seat. The trouble is she can't quite sit up yet so we are limited in our non-holding options.

Thankfully we have the jumper!

We have decided as parents that any baby toy/contraption that keeps our little girl occupied, even for a minute, is soooo worth it.

Kate's Chicago Trip

The week before last Kate and I were in Chicago and we had a great time! We got to see all of our Chicago family and some great friends. We went to many lunches, visited the community pool, and took Kate to the baby swings at the park. She loved everything of course! We also got to do some fun Chicago outings. We met Alina, little Tommy, and Aunt Katie downtown. Coordinating two baby's schedules and dodging rush hour traffic was quite the feat. I must say we managed well. We made it to the Lincoln Park Conservatory and saw the beautiful flowers. We ate lunch at Chicago Joe's and visited Lincoln Park Zoo. These were all things I did as a kid with my Mom and was very excited to do them with Kate. They really brought back some great memories. Especially one from the Farm in the Zoo...
My Mom was notorious for taking us and our friends on great outings. One of our favorites was the Zoo, and our favorite stop was the Farm in the zoo. We saw the chicks hatching, the little piglets, and of course the horses for my sister Katie. It really was and still is quite neat. Well, on our outing we also brought carrots and apples to feed the farm animals. This was certainly a highlight of our trip. As I got older and started to read I noticed the signs that said Do Not Feed the Animals. I asked my Mom about it and she replied, "That just means no junk food for the animals. Apples and carrots are good for them." Being the ever naive child and believing of course everything my Mom said that sounded pretty good to me. I wonder if my Mom will do the same with Kate? I certainly hope so.

Kate's 5 Month Development

Our little Kate is making some big developments:

Kate loves being a big girl and anything that makes her feel that way. She loves to stand up when in your lap. She loves to play on her tummy and push herself up. If you walk away she tries to follow you by rolling. I've watched her complete 7 rolls and move half way out of the living room. She loves jumping! We got her a new jumping seat that is pretty much her favorite place to be. She is adorable in it as you can see from the video below.

She loves her cereal, makes mmmm noises when eating it, and holds the bowl with both hands. Kate actually started taking juice out of a sippy cup the other day. She really isn't one for the bottle and is always trying to grab my glasses so I bought her a kind of in between sippy cup. I pretended to drink out of it and of course she grabbed it right out of my hands and had to try it herself.

She has started sleeping much better at night sometimes as long as 11 hours without a feeding. Taking naps is a different story. I would almost say she has given up napping except for maybe two 20- 40 minute cat naps while we are running errands. I am working on this, though the night time sleeping is just fine for the moment.

Kate is great at playing with toys. My Mom got her a big bag of great toys that Kate has totally taken to. She has a piano she plays, an alligator she bites, and lots of things to stimulate her. She is starting to enjoy reading books, and our favorite is Kate's laugh. Her laugh continues to grow in frequency, length, and overall cuteness. She is a little ticklish, likes playing peek-a-boo, and loves being kind of startled. She went on the baby swing by my Mom's house and loved it. She liked it more the higher we went. She is quite the little daredevil.

As you can see we've had lots of fun and excitement in the last month with our precious Kate!

Kate's 5th Month Pictures

I can't believe our little baby Kate is already 5 months. She just seems so big to us! She is really much less baby and more of a little person with her very own emerging personality. She is a very happy and very active little one. I remember in utero when she kicked and moved for twenty minutes straight. The doctor called her a little marathon runner. It all makes sense now. She barely sits still, which I think you'll see from her 5 month pictures below.

Happy Father's Day

We've had a busy week at the Davies. Brian went to Juarez Mexico with the church youth group to build a house for a family of 6. His Dad, Roy, was able to join them and they had a great time. I went to Chicago with Kate for a visit while our Daddy was gone. We all made it back to Michigan on Saturday for a great Father's Day celebration. (We celebrated Father's Day with my wonderful Daddy in Chicago on Friday and had such fun.) We attended church together and Kate had a special hat to wear that she actually debuted in Chicago a few days earlier. While we were in church Kate got some great Pop Pop time, sitting in his lap stiller then either Brian and I have ever seen her.
We also got to celebrate Wa's birthday with a cake and a present. If we can make the weekend work, Brian will take Pop Pop to the famed "big house" to see a Michigan football game.
We finished the day by giving presents, having a barbecue, and enjoying the beautiful day together. It was a great first Father's Day for our wonderful Daddy, who changes many diapers, wakes up in the middle of the night to put our girl back to sleep, gives great hugs, sings the PJ song like no one else, juggles so much responsibility, and gives so much of himself to us. Thanks Brian!

Kate's 1st Solid Food

On Thursday we gave Kate her first taste of somewhat real food. She had rice cereal and loved it!
She was smiling a lot while eating and once she got the hang of it was trying to grab the spoon and feed herself. She was so adorable looking between my Mom, Brian, and myself to see which one of us had the bowl. Kate was licking the cereal off her bib, and when we stopped feeding her she started crying for more. We gave her a little extra and she was sucking the spoon.
I don't think she could have liked it more as you can see from the video below. It was very fun, very cute, and a nice milestone.

4 Months and Loving It!

Have I mentioned how nice it is to have a 4 month old? Kate had her 4 month doctor's appointment last week. She weighed in at 15lbs and 13oz, which is the 90th percentile. So it is safe to say Kate is gaining weight just fine. I think we could also tell this fact from the number of her arm rolls but it is nice to have a number. Everything else at the appointment went great, and we now get to start solid foods with Kate. That means rice cereal tomorrow! Kate continues to hold her head even higher when on her belly, to laugh especially at her daddy, rolling over immediately when put on her back, and is starting to mirror our actions. She is our fun little girl. The picture above is of Kate in one of the many many outfits my Mom has gotten her and the one below is of her new tubby. She has outgrown her infant tub and seems to like splashing in this one much better.
