Christopher's Birthday Bash

The Birthday Boy going in for a kiss!

Kate playing hard to get!
Christopher, that's a little too fresh for me!
Kate attended her first official kid party the other week. Christopher Gottschalk turned one and we had a great time. The Oehmke-Gottschalk-Carlin family throws awesome parties and this one was no exception. Brian and I were very happy to get invited via Kate and Christopher's budding friendship.

Hot New Wheels

My Mom bought Kate a new little pink car to ride around town in and boy does she love it!

We have taken her on walks, to sunset beach, the farmer's market, and even her great-grandmother's residence, Library Lane. She has made quite the scene wherever we go with it. As Brian says, "She thinks she's hot stuff in that little thing." She usually holds the wheel with both hands talking at everything she passes. The faster you go the better. She certainly likes it better than her stroller!

Lake Placid Trip

On our recent trip to see our New York family, we went away to Lake Placid for an overnight. What a great trip! We stayed right on Mirror Lake and enjoyed wonderful meals, a few walks around the lake, a Lake Placid Boat ride (Gammie's favorite), and a memorable hike up Mount Jo (excellent suggestion Wa!) Lake Placid and the Adirondacks are truly wonderful!

Kate Pics

They last few weeks have been wonderfully busy. We have had out of town visitors or been out of town every day since July 23rd. We literally met my sister Katie and boyfriend Ben on the expressway as we returned from NY. We are having a great time with them. All of our trips and company have been such fun, but my blog posting is behind so below you will find the accumulation of Kate's 6 month pictures. Better late than never. As I look at the pictures it's funny to see Kate in a winter hat on a mild early June evening, and how advanced she has gotten in just a few weeks. She is so close to crawling so I added the above pictures for a more recent snap shot of our little one.

NY Trip

Brian, Kate, and I returned from our New York Vacation on Thursday. We had an awesome time! Kate loved being with her Gammie, Pop Pop, aunts, uncles, friends, and of course cousins. Our little girl was entertained non-stop, loved swimming, visiting, ice cream at the Jericho, and our short trip to Lake Placid. It was especially nice for me to have everyone help with Kate, and what a better place to relax while Kate is taking her afternoon nap than Gammie and Pop's pool. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much to the New York contingent that made our trip so special.

We Love Our Nana!

I just want to take a minute and blog about how much I love my Mom! I know most everyone out there probably feels this way about their own Mom, and I know that Linda would move mountains for anyone of her kids, in-laws, or grandchildren. But I just want to take a second to tell my Mom how special she is to us. Nana, we so appreciate all the visits you make, all the babysitting you've done, all the help you've given us around the house, everything you've taught us about taking care of Kate, and most of all the love you give to us. I don't know what we would without you. Thanks for a great visit last week. Much love!

6 Month Pictures

While my Mom is visiting we took Kate to get her 6 month pictures. We like them even more than her three month pictures and now that she is older it was much easier to get some great shots. The Kiddie Kandids studio even had us sign a release for them to use the pictures in their advertising. We tease Brian that he is going to have to drop out of the ministry to be Kate's manager a la the Simpson family.

Our Wisconsin Vacation

After the 4th we spent 4 nights with my family at The Chula Vista Resort on the Wisconsin River outside Wisconsin Dells. We had a great time! We have been going since I was a little girl and we have all our traditional stops. We go to our favorite restaurants like Ishnala, River's Edge, and Field's. We took in the beautiful scenery and enjoyed the pools, water slides, golfing, jet boats, and other attractions. My cousin David and Katie's boyfriend Ben joined us as well. They both just added so much to the vacation. We are already making our plans for next year.

Happy 6 Month Birthday

Our little sweetheart is officially 6 months old! It's been half a year with our little one. In some ways it's gone so fast, but in others it feels like she has been part of our lives forever. So far this is our favorite age. Kate is so interactive and so cute. She thinks everything her Dad or I do is hilarious. She loves being in her snugli. She even "helps" me carry in the groceries with it. She usually insists on holding one of the lighter bags. She is just about sitting up on her own (when she actually sits still), and she is starting to be very verbal. She is saying ma, mum, and muma. Sometimes they actually are appropriate for conversation so I think we have our first words. The other day when I went to get her from her crib, I think I got a hi. That is truly fun. Kate is also sleeping well through the night, taking an hour and a half crib nap in the afternoon, and a cat nap in the morning during our errands. She still very much enjoys solid foods with her favorite at the moment being applesauce. We've settled into a pretty good routine and are enjoying each other and the summer very much as swimming is Kate's favorite activity.

I Love Swimming

Brian, Kate, and I spent last week in Wisconsin with my family. We had a great time visiting with everyone. Kate especially liked all the action. They even had some great kiddy play areas, like a 1ft deep lazy river that Kate loved. Sometimes she walked along it in her float and other times she just kicked back and went along for the ride as you can see in the video below. Now we are home, and I think Kate is still looking for all the people, water falls, or hiking paths. We had a great time and I will post more pictures soon.

Juarez Trip

Here are some great pictures of Brian and Wa's trip to Juarez with Casas por Christo. They built a three room home for a family of six. It was quite the experience building a house from the ground up in only three and a half days, but a great one.

Our Squirmy Book Worm

Kate has really started to enjoy reading books. She used to squirm whenever we tried to sit her down. Now she can last for a whole book and even has a favorite. Whenever we pull out the Peek-a-boo Baby book Char gave her, Kate breaks into a smile. Gammy and Pop Pop just sent a new box of books for us to enjoy just in time.

Happy 4th of July!

Kate, Brian, and I are enjoying the holiday at my parent's Lakehouse. We had quite the fireworks show last night thanks to my Dad and Uncle Rich. I'd say it was Navy Pier-esque! There was a little competition from the new firemen across the lake, but they blew them out of the water. As far as my Mom and I are concerned, it was a success that no trees were lost or trips to the emergency room made. We hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend, we certainly are!

Kate Videos at 5 Months

Here is some recent Video of Kate. Every stage just keeps getting more fun. She still loves to laugh at her Daddy, and is starting to get very mobile. She has begun back scooting and can make it all around our living room. Enjoy!

I Love My Veggies!

Kate has made her foray into veggies. We've tried squash and carrots, sweet potatoes are next. It certainly makes lunch time fun!
